The thought of having your teeth extracted is stressful enough without worrying about leaving the office with an incomplete smile. Immediate dentures go in on the same day as your extractions, so you walk out with a full set of teeth rather than waiting months to be fitted.
Immediate dentures are pre-fabricated removable prostheses designed to be placed immediately after your remaining teeth are removed. By taking impressions before your surgery, we have your new teeth ready and waiting. This approach helps protect your healing gums and prevents the social discomfort of being without a smile. We help you with:
Feature | Immediate Dentures | Conventional Dentures |
|---|---|---|
When It Is Placed | Inserted on the exact same day your teeth are extracted | Placed several weeks or months after extractions, once gums have fully healed |
Time Without Teeth | Zero days | Several weeks to months |
Future Adjustments | Requires a reline or replacement within 6 to 12 months as gums shrink | Offers a more stable long-term fit from day one since gums are already healed |
A few weeks before your extraction date, we take detailed molds of your mouth to capture the shape of your jaws and your natural bite.
We carefully extract your remaining failing teeth and immediately gently insert your pre-made denture before you leave the chair.
We see you for follow-up visits shortly after your procedure to check your healing progress and make minor comfort adjustments.
After your gums and bone have fully healed and reshaped over several months, we perform a professional reline to bring your denture back to a snug fit. Most people need this repeated every year or two as the bone keeps settling.
When Dr. Mohammad Hammoud plans for immediate dentures, he focuses on making your extraction experience as stress-free as possible. It takes courage to transition to dentures. We take the impressions weeks ahead and hold the extraction and the fitting in the same visit here in Dearborn, including Saturdays, so you are not making four trips across two practices while you have no teeth.
You will be fully numb during the procedure. The immediate denture actually acts like a protective bandage over the extraction sites, which helps minimize bleeding and swelling during the first few days of healing.
No. For the first 24 hours, you must leave the immediate denture in place to protect the surgical sites and reduce swelling. We will remove it for you at your post-operative checkup the next day.
As your gums heal from the extractions, the tissue and underlying bone naturally shrink and change shape. Because the denture was made before this shrinkage occurred, it will eventually feel loose and require a reline to fit securely again.
Yes. We take careful measurements and note the shade and shape of your natural teeth prior to extraction so your immediate denture looks like a healthy version of your natural smile.
